2023: Indigehouse

Structure made of screenprints, iridescent cellophane, and cardboard

Indigehouse is a manifestation of my cultural upbringing and being surrounded by colors in the tropics. It lives on an island full of foliage and palm trees. In the center lies the main structure, a house shaped like the Taino sun symbol with 6 large bay windows. Every aspect of this house is covered with symbols from my Taino and Incan indigenous background. Inside lives Oscar, my 4-month-old hamster, peering out into the world. The collage of foliage and animals on the island are a nod towards my chaotic upbringing and the chaos of my work that I am surrounded with, both in reality and now physically. The choice for the tropics was simple: I have spent most of my life in South Florida in a pink house with pastel-colored rooms. It is an homage to my past and a manifestation of my future, preferably where I will live after retirement. This house is a reflection of my identity and who I have become today as well as who I hope to be tomorrow.
